LAURA ROBLES
Laura Robles (Cajón, Batás, Congas, E-Bass) was born in 1981 in Swaziland, Africa, but grew up in Peru. At the age of four, she startet to access the rich Afro-Peruvian musical tradition by taking lessons from master Amador “Chebo” Ballumbrosio. After this, Juan Medrano “Cotito” (internationally known for his work with Susana Baca) took her under his wing. For ten years now, Laura has been considered one of the most important players of the cajón in Peru, the central instrument of folklore that was influenced by West African slaves. At the age of 13 she was accepted at Susana Baca's "Instituto Negro Continuo", intensively studying Cuban folklore and popular music as well as the complex music of the Yoruba culture. She founded the successful bands "Astrocombo" and "Stretch it to the Limit", as well as the socio-educational initiative "Parió Paula", played with theater and dance companies and some of the most renowned folk, jazz and rock musicians in Peru and at international festivals in Central and South America, the USA and Spain.She moved to Berlin in 2012, where she She won the City of Berlin's Studio Prize in 2014 with the Berlin version of her "Astrocombo". Since them she worked with Johannes Lauer, Joscha Oetz, Almut Kühne, Ahmed Soura, Uli Kempendorff, Greg Cohen, Simon Nabatov, Niels Klein, Pablo Held Trio, Wanja Slavin, Christian Weidner, Bodek Janke, MORF, DUS-TI, Berlin Art Orchestra and Lauer Large.
TRIGO SANTANA
Originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil, he graduated in Double Bass Performance. His music is strongly influenced by Brazilian traditional rhythms as well as contemporary Jazz and Brazilian music.
Trigo Santana played with several contemporary Brazilian music groups such as Misturada Orquestra, Mauro Rodrigues Quarteto, Rafael Martini Sexteto and Alexandre Andrés Quarteto, with whom he realized shows in Brazil and internationally. He also played and recorded with important names of the Brazilian music scene like the composers Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, André Mehmari, Sérgio Santos, Chico Pinheiro, Luiz Tatit, Maurício Carrilho, Toninho Horta, Mauro Rodrigues, Nailor Proveta, Antônio Carrasqueira, Ná Ozzeti, Jussara Silveira, Sérgio Ricardo, Telo Borges, Arnaldo Antunes, Joathan Nascimento, Robertinho Silva, Luis Felipe Gama, Márcio Bahia, Grupo UAKTI and international artists like Jack Schantz (Cleveland Jazz Quartet) and Zal Sissocko from Senegal. Performed at varies Brazilian and international music festivals such as Savassi Festival (NY), Sunfest World Music Festival (CAN), Kultrún Festival (CAN) and Festival Músicas do Mundo (POR).
In 2007 he won the “Young Musicians Award” in Belo Horizonte (BRA). As arranger he recorded in 2011 on the album "Misturada Orquestra" the music "Vôo dos Urubus" with it’s own composer, Toninho Horta, as special guest.
CARLOS CORONA
Carlos Corona was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990. At the age of 9 he started to play the classical guitar.
Inspired by Brazilian music, Carlos discovered the Brazilian Seven String Guitar and started to use it into jazz and Latin-American popular music in his different projects in Guadalajara. Being part of different bands in Guadalajara, he played different music styles as Cuban and Brazilian music, Jazz Manouche, Mexican son Jarocho, boleros and european music, performing in several theaters and festivals.
All this background helped him to explore the Brazilian Seven String Guitar through his own compositions and original arrangements of popular Mexican songs, using contemporary harmony.
His first album "Siete Cuerdas Tapatías" was released in Mexico 2015 presenting his pursuit to find new musical sounds and possibilities within the contemporary Mexican guitar. Siete Cuerdas Tapatías received the sponsorship of The Secretaría de Cultura de Jalisco.
His performance at the international Jalisco Jazz Festival 2016 sharing the stage in Teatro PALCCO with John Beasley, Frost Ensemble, Toktli, Federico Sanchez, earn a nomination for ‘Best Jazz Concert Mexico 2016’ (Lunas del Auditorio Award).
He presented Siete Cuerdas tapatías also at Premio Nacional del Agave 2016, Teatro Sala Higinio Ruvalcaba, Radio Live Session Solo Jazz (Sara Valenzuela, Radio UdG Guadalajara), Festival Cultural del Grullo 2017, Global Music Stage Berlin, Konzertsaal Syke (2019), Creole Contest 2019 Werktatt der Kulturen Berlin.
